Wheeler’s Shrimp Goby | Amblyeleotris wheeleri

The Wheeler’s Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris wheeleri), also known as Wheeler’s Watchman Goby, is a peaceful bottom-dwelling goby recognized for its attractive red-orange bands and spotted pattern. Like other shrimp gobies, this species can form a symbiotic partnership with compatible Pistol Shrimp, sharing a burrow while the goby keeps watch for potential threats. It will pair with the Tiger, Banded, & Randall’s Pistol Shrimp.

Provide a sandy substrate with plenty of rockwork and sheltered areas where the goby can establish a burrow. Wheeler’s Shrimp Gobies can be kept alone but are especially interesting when paired with a compatible Alpheus pistol shrimp. Feed a varied diet of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and other appropriately sized frozen or prepared carnivore foods. Their manageable size, peaceful temperament, and entertaining burrowing behavior make them an excellent addition to most peaceful reef aquariums.
