A small-medium bivalve with an irregular, layered shell. Older specimens are often completely covered in macroalgae, sponges, corals, and rock deposits allowing the oyster to resemble an inanimate rock when closed. Can be yellow, black, gray, purple, and multicolored. Mantle coloration varies.
